5 Seconds of Summer, professionally known as 5SOS, is an Australian pop rock band formed in Sydney in 2011. The band comprises lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Luke Hemmings, lead guitarist Michael Clifford, bassist Calum Hood, and drummer Ashton Irwin. Originally gaining attention as YouTube celebrities, they achieved breakthrough international fame while touring as support for One Direction’s Take Me Home Tour.
The band released their self-titled debut album in 2014, which debuted at number one in 11 countries. Their second album, Sounds Good Feels Good (2015), topped charts in 8 countries. The 2018 album Youngblood became a major commercial and critical success, making 5 Seconds of Summer the first Australian act to achieve three number one albums on the US Billboard 200 chart. They also became the first band to have their first three full-length albums debut at number one in the United States. In 2020, the band released their fourth studio album Calm, which earned them their fourth consecutive number one on the ARIA albums chart.
