About Alabina
Biography / Discography
Alabina is a French-based world music ensemble formed in 1996, led by Israeli vocalist Ishtar (born Eti Zach) alongside Los Niños de Sara, a Spanish-speaking Gypsy group of four musicians from Montpellier. The group performs a distinctive fusion of raï, flamenco, and Mediterranean influences, blending Middle Eastern, Arabic, French, Hebrew, and Spanish Gypsy musical traditions. Ishtar’s multilingual vocals—in Arabic, Hebrew, French, Spanish, and English—combined with the band’s instrumental arrangements of guitar, vocals, and percussion, create their signature world-music sound.
Alabina achieved international chart success with their 1997 hit “Ole y ola,” which reached number 19 on the French charts and received silver certification. The title track “Alabina” spent 21 weeks on the charts, peaking at number 29. The group released six studio albums between 1996 and 2016, establishing themselves as notable performers in the European world music and fusion circuit.
