About Bashy
Biography / Discography
Bashy, born Ashley Thomas on 4 February 1985 in Hammersmith, West London, is an English rapper, actor and musician. Also known as MC Bashy, he emerged from the UK’s grime scene in his late teens, performing on pirate radio stations before transitioning to mainstream music and acting careers.
Musically, Bashy released his debut album Catch Me If You Can in 2009, which received a MOBO Award nomination for Album of the Year. He featured on Gorillaz’s critically acclaimed 2010 single “White Flag” from Plastic Beach alongside UK rapper Kano and the Syrian National Orchestra for Arabic Music. After stepping back from music to pursue acting full-time in 2013, he returned to music with his first full-length album in 15 years, Being Poor is Expensive, released 12 July 2024. This album received critical acclaim and won the 2025 MOBO Award for Album of the Year, with Bashy also winning the MOBO Award for Best Hip Hop Act the same year.
As an actor, Thomas has appeared in numerous acclaimed film and television productions including Adulthood (2008), Cockneys vs Zombies (2012), My Brother the Devil (2012), Black Mirror (2011), Top Boy (2013, 2019), The Night Of (2016), The Good Fight (2018), and Great Expectations (2022), becoming the first Black actor to play Mr Jaggers in that role. He has received multiple award nominations including an Independent Spirit Award nomination for the series Them. Bashy is available to book for festivals, corporate events and private shows.
