About Dax J
Biography / Discography
Dax J (legal name Dax Heddon) is a London-born DJ, producer, and label founder based in Berlin. Born in 1990, he began DJing at age 15 on UK pirate radio stations while heavily influenced by drum and bass pioneers like Goldie and Bad Company. His early production work in the mid-2000s focused on jungle and drum and bass, released on labels including Urban Takeover and his own Xplicit Recordings.
A transformative 2007 summer season in Ibiza introduced Dax J to techno, redirecting his artistic focus toward the raw, cutting-edge four-on-the-floor aesthetic that became his signature sound. In 2013, he established the Berlin-based Monnom Black label, releasing his own work alongside emerging producers. His 2015 debut album “Shades of Black” earned Mixmag Album of the Month recognition, establishing his profile within the international techno community.
Dax J’s career reached a significant milestone in 2016 when he was ranked number 56 in Resident Advisor’s Top 100 DJs of the year and nominated for Best Breakthrough DJ by Mixmag, Groove Magazine, and DJ Mag. His 2024 album “War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength” received critical acclaim, with Juno describing it as “Basic Channel on steroids.” A trained sound engineer with a degree in Music Technology, Dax J operates his own Berlin studio and is available for festival, corporate, and private events.
