About Dubfire
Biography / Discography
Dubfire, the stage name of Ali Shirazinia, is an Iranian American house and techno DJ and producer. Born in Mashhad, Iran, he first rose to prominence as one half of the electronic duo Deep Dish alongside Sharam Tayebi before establishing a solo career defined by a harder-edged techno and minimal house sound, distinct from Deep Dish’s progressive house style.
As Deep Dish, Shirazinia produced dance-scene remixes beginning with a 1995 rework of De’Lacy’s “Hideaway” and won a Grammy Award in 2002 for the remix of Dido’s “Thank You.” After launching his solo Dubfire project, he founded the record label SCI+TEC Digital Audio in 2007. His solo discography includes the singles “Emissions” and “RibCage” (2007), collaborations with Oliver Huntemann such as “Diablo” and “Dios,” and later releases including “Exit” featuring Miss Kittin (2014) and “Algorithm” (2022). He has also mixed compilations in the Global Underground series, including Global Underground: Toronto (2003) and Global Underground: Taipei (2007).
Dubfire’s remix work includes reinterpretations of Plastikman’s “Spastik” and System 7’s “Spacebird.” He was named DJ Magazine’s International DJ of the Year in 2008 and has received Beatport Music Awards for Best Minimal Artist and Best Techno Artist. He is available to book for festivals, club nights, and private events.
