About Gigi D’Agostino
Biography / Discography
Gigi D’Agostino (born Luigino Celestino di Agostino, 17 December 1967 in Turin, Italy) is an Italian DJ, music producer, and record label owner. Beginning his career as a DJ in 1986, he pioneered what became known as Mediterranean Progressive Dance, a minimalist style blending Latin and Mediterranean melodies with electronic production. Throughout the 1990s, he collaborated with producers Mauro Picotto and Gianfranco Bortolotti at Media Records, developing his signature sound that evolved from pure Italo disco toward a more melodic house and progressive hybrid later termed Italo dance.
D’Agostino achieved major international chart success between 1999 and 2000 with a string of hit singles, including “Bla Bla Bla” (1999), “Another Way” (1999), his cover of Nik Kershaw’s “The Riddle” (2000, which sold 1,000,000 copies in Germany), “Super” (2001, a collaboration with Albertino), and the platinum-certified album “L’Amour toujours” (1999, released in the US in 2001). He earned multiple awards including Best Producer (Italian Dance Awards 1999), Best DJ-Producer of the Year (Red Bull Awards 2001), and Best Dance Producer (Italian Dance Awards 2001 and PIM Awards). In 2018, his collaboration with Dynoro on “In My Mind” became an international hit, with the track’s hook also serving as a viral remix/mashup.
Beyond his recording career, D’Agostino established record labels Noisemaker (1994) and later Noisemaker Hard (2006) to release both his own work and other artists’ material. He hosted radio programs on Italian station m2o Musica allo Stato Puro from 2005 to 2010, and performed as a resident and guest DJ across European clubs and festivals.
