Biography / Discography
Ian Carey, professionally known by the stage name Ian “45” Carey (legal name Ian Joseph Harshman), was an American house DJ, musician, and record producer based in Miami, Florida. A prominent figure in electronic dance music, Carey built his reputation through high-energy house productions and collaborations with internationally recognized artists.
Carey began his career as a DJ in 1993 and transitioned into music production by 1998, honing his craft across multiple continents. He relocated to Europe to advance his career, spending time in the Netherlands (2003) and Spain (2006) before returning to Miami. His early collaborative work with Jason Papillon under the Soul Providers project, particularly the track “Rise,” established his credibility within the house music scene.
His greatest commercial success came in 2008 with the single “Get Shaky,” co-written with vocalist Kelly Barnes. The track achieved significant international chart success, reaching number two on Australia’s ARIA Singles Chart and number nine on the UK Singles Chart, while earning Double Platinum certification in Australia and Gold in New Zealand. The song also won Best Dance Video at the MTV Australia Awards 2009. His influence extended beyond recording; “Get Shaky” was adopted as the official goal anthem for the Czech Republic during the 2010 IIHF Ice Hockey World Cup.
