About Kutski
Biography / Discography
Kutski, born John Walker in Chester, England, is a British DJ and producer specializing in hard dance music, including hardstyle, hardcore, hard trance, breakbeat and electro. He is best known for hosting shows on BBC Radio 1 and for his weekly podcast Keeping the Rave Alive, which he launched in 2012.
Kutski began DJing at age 15 and built his reputation through residencies at Tasty in London, Ripsnorter in Bristol and Elevate in Bangor, where he first performed. In 2004 he released production work under the alias SPX, with tracks appearing on compilations including Insomnia 4 and Extreme Euphoria 3. In 2005 he joined BBC Radio 1’s The Residency, a strand curated by Pete Tong that spotlighted underground dance specialists, and used the platform to champion hard dance to a national audience.
In 2010 Kutski was voted the United Kingdom’s number one hard dance DJ in a DJ Mag poll. He has written as a columnist for DJ Magazine and worked with equipment brands including Pioneer, Native Instruments and Serato. In 2018 he collaborated with producer Kit Hype on the single Fly To The Stars. His Keeping the Rave Alive brand has grown into a record label, merchandise line and event promotion enterprise. Kutski is available to book for festivals, club nights and private events.
