About Outlandish
Biography / Discography
Outlandish is a hip-hop music ensemble based in Denmark, formed in 1997. Originally comprising three members from diverse backgrounds, the group now operates as a duo featuring Waqas Ali Qadri and Lenny Martinez. The ensemble is recognized for its multilingual hip-hop style that blends elements from Moroccan, Pakistani, Cuban, and Honduran cultural traditions, incorporating Spanish, English, Panjabi, and Urdu in their compositions.
The group’s early releases, including singles “Pacific to Pacific” and “Saturday Night,” gained attention for socially conscious messaging and cultural fusion. Their breakthrough came with the second album Bread & Barrels of Water, which achieved significant international commercial success. A cover of Khaled’s composition became a number-one hit in Germany, while the single “Guantanamo” also performed strongly on European charts. The ensemble released four additional studio albums between 2005 and 2012, with Sound of a Rebel appearing in 2009 and Warrior // Worrier following in 2012.
After suspending activities in 2017, Outlandish reconvened as a duo in 2019 and officially reformed in 2022, releasing new material including the EP Alabas in June 2023 and the album The Cornershop Carnival. Throughout their career, the ensemble has been active in charitable initiatives and cultural events, including performances at the Concert for Peace in Darfur and other benefit concerts.
