Biography / Discography
P.M. Dawn (also known as PM Dawn, P M Dawn) was an American hip hop and contemporary R&B duo formed in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1988 by brothers Attrell Cordes, known professionally as Prince Be or Prince Be the Nocturnal, and Jarrett Cordes, also credited as DJ Minutemix. The group was celebrated for their innovative fusion of hip hop, soul, and pop-oriented urban music, achieving substantial crossover appeal during the early 1990s.
Their debut studio album, Of the Heart, of the Soul and of the Cross: The Utopian Experience, released in 1991, introduced their signature sound and spawned their biggest hit, ‘Set Adrift on Memory Bliss,’ which sampled Spandau Ballet’s ‘True’ and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The duo followed with three additional studio albums: The Bliss Album…? (Vibrations of Love and Anger and the Ponderance of Life and Existence) in 1993, Jesus Wept in 1995, and Dearest Christian, I’m So Very Sorry for Bringing You Here. Love, Dad in 1998. Notable singles including ‘I’d Die Without You’ (1992, number three pop hit) and ‘Looking Through Patient Eyes’ (1993, number six pop hit) further established their prominence in the early-1990s mainstream music landscape. The group received international recognition, winning Best International Newcomer at the 1992 BRIT Awards.
