About Recondite
Biography / Discography
Recondite is the stage name of Lorenz Brunner, a German techno producer, musician and sound artist born in Lower Bavaria. He established himself as a key figure in contemporary electronic music through a distinctive approach that blurs boundaries between techno, acid, ambient and deep house. In 2009, Brunner relocated to Berlin, where he founded his own imprint Plangent Records in 2011 and began releasing music under the Recondite alias.
His early releases on Plangent Records earned international recognition, leading to a debut performance at Berlin’s Panorama Bar/Berghain in 2011. The 2012 album On Acid, released via Absurd Recordings, marked a significant milestone, establishing his signature acid techno sound and earning him his first US performances. His second album Hinterland (Ghostly International, 2013) expanded his international profile substantially, resulting in worldwide touring commitments. Subsequent releases including Iffy (2014), Placid (2015), Daemmerlicht (2018), Dwell (2020), Taum (2022) and Indifferent (2024) have cemented his reputation as a prolific and consistently innovating producer.
Recondite’s live sets are characterized by adaptive, mood-responsive performances tailored to venue dynamics and audience atmosphere, earning him a DJ Awards 2014 nomination for Electronic Live Performance. He has performed at major festivals including Melt!, Time Warp and Amsterdam Dance Event, as well as foundational club venues across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. His work spans multiple respected labels including Innervisions, Dystopian, Hotflush and Ghostly International.
