About T-Pain
Biography / Discography
T-Pain (Faheem Rashad Najm) is an American singer, rapper, songwriter, and record producer born in Tallahassee, Florida, on September 30, 1984. He is widely recognized as a pioneer in the creative use of Auto-Tune pitch correction, often deployed with extreme parameter settings to create distinctive electronic-styled vocal performances. His innovative approach to blending Auto-Tune with R&B and hip-hop sensibilities played a key role in defining rap-singing throughout the 2000s and influenced numerous major artists across genres.
T-Pain began his recording career as a member of the hip-hop group Nappy Headz before launching his solo career. After self-releasing his debut mixtape Back @ It in 2004, he signed with Akon’s Konvict Muzik in a joint venture with Jive Records in 2005. His debut single “I’m Sprung” quickly achieved commercial success, reaching number eight on the Billboard Hot 100, followed by “I’m ‘n Luv (wit a Stripper)” featuring Mike Jones, which peaked at number five. His debut album Rappa Ternt Sanga (2005) established his presence, while his second album Epiphany (2007) reached number one on the US Billboard 200 and produced the hit single “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” with Yung Joc, which peaked at number one on the Hot 100. Subsequent albums include Three Ringz (2008), Revolver (2011), and Oblivion (2017).
Beyond his solo work, T-Pain achieved sustained success as a featured artist, appearing on nine Billboard Hot 100 top-ten singles, including “Low” by Flo Rida (later certified diamond by the RIAA and named third in the Billboard Hot 100 Songs of the Decade), “Kiss Kiss” by Chris Brown, “Good Life” by Kanye West, and “Blame It” by Jamie Foxx.
