The Invisible are an English electronic band formed in 2006, centered on guitarist-vocalist Dave Okumu, bassist-keyboardist Tom Herbert, and drummer Leo Taylor. The project originated as Okumu’s solo venture before expanding into a full collaborative ensemble. Self-described as “experimental genre-spanning spacepop,” the band blends electronic production with live instrumentation, creating a distinctive sound that has drawn critical comparisons to Bloc Party and TV on the Radio.
The Invisible released their self-titled debut album in March 2009 on Accidental Records, produced by Matthew Herbert. The album earned a Mercury Prize nomination and received critical acclaim from leading music publications. The band continued their creative output with the albums Rispah (2012, named after Okumu’s mother) and Patience (2016), both released on Ninja Tune. Their live performances have supported major acts including Foals and Hot Chip, establishing their presence in contemporary electronic music.
Beyond their own recordings, Okumu has become a prolific producer and songwriter for prominent artists. He co-wrote and produced Jessie Ware’s debut album Devotion (Mercury Prize winner), and has contributed production and songwriting work with Amy Winehouse, St. Vincent, and Adele. Drummer Leo Taylor has contributed drums to Adele’s acclaimed albums, including the James Bond theme “Skyfall.” The Invisible continue to balance their own artistic output with collaborative production work in contemporary music.
