About The Three Degrees
Biography / Discography
The Three Degrees is an American female vocal group formed in Philadelphia in 1963. Known by alternate names including Thee Degrees and The 3 Degrees, the group has maintained a consistent trio lineup throughout its career and specializes in soul, disco, and Philadelphia soul music.
The group’s most successful lineup consisted of Fayette Pinkney, Valerie Holiday, and Sheila Ferguson (1967-1976). In 1974, they achieved mainstream prominence through “TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia),” a collaboration with MFSB that reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. That same year, their single “When Will I See You Again” became a major international hit, topping the UK Singles Chart and reaching number two in the United States. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, The Three Degrees dominated the UK market, charting 13 Top 50 hits between 1974 and 1985, including “Woman in Love,” which peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart in 1979.
After several lineup changes, the group achieved stability from 1989 to 2010 with Valerie Holiday, Helen Scott, and Cynthia Garrison. They secured their final UK chart entry in 1998 with a dance cover of “Last Christmas.” Freddi Poole joined in 2011, and the band released their studio album Strategy: Our Tribute to Philadelphia in 2016. The Three Degrees continues to perform and is available for festivals, corporate events, and private engagements.
