Biography / Discography
The Weeknd, the stage name of Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, is a Canadian singer-songwriter and record producer from Scarborough, Toronto. Performing solo, he works primarily in alternative R&B, blending a light-lyric tenor and falsetto vocal style with dark, atmospheric production. He first gained attention through anonymously released tracks in 2009 before issuing three mixtapes in 2011, which established his signature moody sound.
After signing with Republic Records, he compiled the mixtapes into the album Trilogy (2012) and released his debut studio album Kiss Land (2013).
