Sir Thomas Jones Woodward, known professionally as Tom Jones, is a Welsh pop and soul singer who rose to prominence in the 1960s and remains one of the most commercially successful recording artists in history. Born 7 June 1940 in Pontypridd, Wales, he has built a career spanning over six decades, blending pop with influences from R&B, soul, gospel, country, and traditional standards. His voice, described as a full-throated, robust baritone, became iconic across multiple genres and generations. Jones has sold over 100 million records worldwide.
Jones achieved early commercial success with a string of top 10 hits throughout the 1960s, including signature songs ‘It’s Not Unusual’ (1965), ‘What’s New Pussycat?’ (1965), ‘Green, Green Grass of Home’ (1966), and ‘Delilah’ (1968). He recorded the theme for the James Bond film Thunderball (1965).
