About Tunde Baiyewu
Biography / Discography
Emmanuel Babatunde Baiyewu, professionally known as Tunde Baiyewu, is a British vocalist and songwriter of Nigerian and Yoruba descent. Born in 1968, he is best known as the lead vocalist of Lighthouse Family, the soul-pop duo he co-founded with Paul Tucker in the early 1990s while studying at university in Newcastle. The group achieved international acclaim with their 1995 debut album Ocean Drive, which reached platinum status across multiple territories including the UK (6x Platinum), Australia, and Germany, with over 1.8 million copies sold.
Lighthouse Family’s signature sound combined soulful vocals with contemporary pop arrangements, establishing them as one of the defining acts of 1990s pop music. Beyond the group’s four studio albums—Ocean Drive, Postcards from Heaven, Whatever Gets You Through the Day, and Blue Sky in Your Head (2019)—the duo sold over 15 million albums worldwide. Baiyewu’s distinctive vocal delivery became integral to the group’s commercial and critical success.
In addition to his work with Lighthouse Family, Baiyewu pursued a solo career, releasing albums including Tunde (2004) and Diamond in a Rock (2013). He has appeared in broadcast productions including BBC’s Strictly African Dancing (2005) and ITV’s Faith in Music (2006).
