About Akcent
Biography / Discography
Akcent is a Romanian dance-pop and electropop group formed in 1999 in București. Originally a duo featuring Adrian Sînă and Ramona Barta, the project released its debut album Senzatzia in 2000. After initial commercial struggles, Sînă recruited Marius Nedelcu, Mihai Gruia, and Sorin Brotnei in 2001, transforming Akcent into a boyband and broadening its commercial appeal.
The reconfigured ensemble achieved prominence across Europe with the single ‘Ți-am promis’ and achieved substantial international chart success with ‘Kylie’. In 2006, Akcent represented Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Jokero’, a collaboration with Romanian vocalist Nico. The single became their first number-one entry on the Romanian Top 100, cementing their status as major figures in European dance-pop. The group’s members sing primarily in Romanian, English, and Spanish, reflecting their pan-European commercial strategy.
By 2013, internal conflicts prompted a restructuring, after which Adrian Sînă continued the project as its sole member and creative director. The artist remains active in recording and touring.
