About Chvrches
Biography / Discography
Chvrches (stylised CHVRCHΞS, pronounced Churches) is a Scottish electronic pop band formed in Glasgow in September 2011. The band comprises Lauren Mayberry (vocals), Iain Cook (keyboards and synthesizers), and Martin Doherty (keyboards, guitar, and vocals), with Jonny Scott serving as an unofficial fourth member since 2018. Their sound blends synth-pop with indietronica, indie pop, and electronic dance music, establishing a distinctive aesthetic that combines electronic sophistication with pop accessibility and emotional resonance.
Following their 2013 debut EP Recover—which included the breakthrough single “The Mother We Share”—Chvrches released their debut album The Bones of What You Believe in September 2013 to widespread critical acclaim. The album earned the group a position on the BBC’s prestigious Sound of 2013 list, ranked fifth overall.
