About David Garrett
Biography / Discography
David Garrett, born David Christian Bongartz in Aachen, Germany, in 1980, is a German violinist and recording artist known for classical crossover, a style that blends classical repertoire with rock and pop arrangements. He began violin studies at age seven, made his concert debut at nine, and later trained at the Royal College of Music in London and the Juilliard School in New York under Itzhak Perlman.
At age 13 Garrett became the youngest violinist to sign an exclusive recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon. His crossover albums include Encore (2008), Rock Symphonies (2010), Garrett vs. Paganini (2013), Explosive (2015), Rock Revolution (2017) and Alive: My Soundtrack (2020), spanning arrangements of classical works alongside rock, pop and film music. He held the Guinness World Record for World’s Fastest Violinist from 2008 to 2011 and received the Bambi Award for Classical Music in 2013.
As a soloist he has performed with orchestras including the Munich Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, appeared at the BBC Proms, and played at the 2012 UEFA Champions League Final and the UEFA Europa League anthem broadcast in 2020. He also portrayed violinist Niccolo Paganini in the 2013 film The Devil’s Violinist. David Garrett is available to book for concert halls, festivals, and corporate and private events.
