About DNCE
Biography / Discography
DNCE is an American dance-rock band formed in San Francisco in 2015. The group originally consisted of lead vocalist Joe Jonas, drummer Jack Lawless, guitarist JinJoo Lee, and bassist-keyboardist Cole Whittle. Characterized by dance-rock and funk-pop instrumentation, DNCE rapidly achieved international success with their debut single “Cake by the Ocean” in September 2015, which peaked at number nine on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The band’s debut extended play, Swaay, was released in October 2015 and achieved platinum certification after peaking at number 39 on the Billboard 200. Following a notable appearance on the television special Grease Live!, DNCE released their self-titled debut studio album in November 2016, which peaked at number 17 on the Billboard 200 with gold certification. The 2018 extended play People to People and subsequent single “Dance” received limited commercial success, leading the band to enter an indefinite hiatus.
Jonas and Lee pursued separate projects during the hiatus, with Jonas rejoining the Jonas Brothers and Lee collaborating with other artists. DNCE reunited in February 2022, releasing the Kygo collaboration “Dancing Feet” without founding member Cole Whittle, followed by additional singles including “Move,” “Got Me Good,” and “Flamingo.” The band entered another hiatus in 2024.
