About Ego
Biography / Discography
Ego, the stage name of JUDr. Michal Straka, is a Slovak rapper and solo artist born in Lučenec in 1983. A trained lawyer, he is best known as a core member of the Slovak hip-hop collective Kontrafakt, formed in 2001 alongside Rytmus and DJ Anys. The group achieved mainstream success beginning with their 2003 single ‘Dáva mi’, which gained regional airplay in Poland and Germany via MTV Europe.
Kontrafakt released five studio albums between 2004 and 2021, with their 2007 release ‘Bozk na rozlúčku’ selling over 20,000 copies and establishing them among Slovakia’s best-selling acts. Their 2020 music video ‘Ideme dňu’ was nominated for Best Cinematography at the Berlin Music Video Awards. Beyond group work, Straka has pursued a solo career, releasing his debut album ‘Precedens’ in December 2017, featuring collaborations with prominent Slovak and Czech rappers including Paulie Garand, LVCAS Dope, and Yzomandias. His second solo album ‘Egotron’ followed in September 2020. Notably, his solo single ‘Žijeme len raz’ (2012) topped Slovak radio charts and became one of YouTube’s most-viewed Slovak music videos at the time.
