About Emilia
Biography / Discography
Emilia Bashur, known professionally by her mononym Emilia, is a Bulgarian pop folk singer born on 21 March 1982 in Galabovo. She has become one of Bulgaria’s prominent pop folk performers, having released ten studio albums since her debut in 2001. The genre of pop folk (chalga) is deeply rooted in Bulgarian and Balkan musical traditions, blending folk melodies with contemporary popular music styles.
Emilia began her musical journey at an early age, studying traditional Bulgarian music with renowned instructors Jivka Dimitrova and Dimitar Kolev. In 1999, she recorded her first song, ‘It’s Over with You,’ which became a hit in pop folk circles. After signing with the Bulgarian record label Payner, she released her debut album Veselo Momiche (Happy Girl) in 2001, which was commercially successful. Her subsequent albums include Nežni Ustni (2002), Angel in the Night (2003), Lonely Room (2005), Think About Me (2006), I Was Born to Love You (2008), I Like That (2010), The Brave Have It All (2012), Ah, Beautiful Bulgaria (2015), Shark (2020), and Turbulence (2023).
Beyond studio recordings, Emilia has been a regular performer on Planeta Tours, Bulgaria’s largest pop folk touring festival, performing in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2014. She has also released several greatest hits compilations and video albums throughout her career.
