En Vogue is an American R&B girl group whose original lineup consisted of Terry Ellis, Dawn Robinson, Cindy Herron, and Maxine Jones. Formed in Oakland, California in 1989, the group emerged as one of the most successful female vocal groups of the 1990s, blending contemporary R&B with new jack swing, soul, and pop influences.
The group achieved immediate success with their 1990 debut album Born to Sing, which featured the single ‘Hold On,’ reaching number 2 on the US Hot 100. Their 1992 album Funky Divas broke into the top 10 in both US and UK markets and included major hits ‘My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It),’ ‘Giving Him Something He Can Feel,’ and ‘Free Your Mind.’ In 1996, ‘Don’t Let Go (Love)’ became their most successful single, reaching number 2 on the Hot 100 and number 1 on the US R&B chart. En Vogue has scored more number 1 singles on the US R&B chart than any other female group except the Supremes.
