About NANA
Biography / Discography
Nana Kwame Abrokwa, professionally known as Nana and Darkman, is a Ghanaian-born German rapper and DJ who emerged as a leading figure in the Euro-rap movement of the 1990s. He achieved breakthrough success with his 1996 self-titled debut album and the 1997 hit single “Lonely”, which topped the charts in Germany and Switzerland and earned platinum certification in Germany.
Born in Ghana, Nana relocated to Hamburg at age ten. He began his music career in the early 1990s as a DJ and co-producer in hip-hop clubs, including work with producer DJ David Fascher under the alias MC Africa True. His stage name Darkman originated from a 1994 collaboration in the Eurodance project Darkness. His debut album was certified platinum in Poland and gold in Germany and Switzerland, garnering him Comet Awards (1997, 1998) and ECHO Awards (1998) for best German debut and artist.
Following his successful early career, Nana released the album “Father” (1998) and continued recording through the early 2000s, culminating in “All Doors in Flight No. 7” (2004) on his own Darkman Records label. After a period of reduced activity, he returned to touring across Europe in 2022, available for festivals, corporate events, and private performances.
