About Flying Steps
Biography / Discography
Flying Steps is a B-boy crew formed in 1993 by Kadir Memis (Amigo) and Vartan Bassil in Berlin, Germany. The nine-member group specializes in breakdancing (B-boying), popping, locking, hip-hop and house dance. They are considered one of the most successful urban dance acts worldwide and have won multiple international championships, including victories at the Battle of the Year and Red Bull Beat Battle.
Beyond their core dance performances, Flying Steps has expanded into multiple artistic and commercial ventures. The crew founded their own music label and launched various music projects, demonstrating their versatility across performance and production. In 2007, they released the single Operator. Their creative reach extends to interactive entertainment, with involvement in B-Boy-themed PlayStation games, and educational initiatives through the Flying Steps Academy Berlin, where they train the next generation of urban dancers.
The crew gained significant entertainment, theater and media recognition throughout their career. In 2010, under the artistic direction of Christoph Hagel, they premiered Red Bull Flying Bach, a groundbreaking dance performance that fused breakdancing with contemporary dance choreography set to Johann Sebastian Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier. This production was performed at the German Bundestag, the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest, and the Federal Presidency’s Summer Festival, earning recognition with a special Echo award.
