About Frenship
Biography / Discography
FRENSHIP is an American electropop duo consisting of James Sunderland and Brett Hite. The pair met while working at a Lululemon retail store and formed their musical collaboration in 2016. They are best known for their breakout single ‘Capsize,’ released in 2016 as a collaboration with Emily Warren. The track reached number one on Hype Machine and accumulated over 505 million streams on Spotify, establishing the duo’s signature synth-driven sound.
FRENSHIP initially built momentum through SoundCloud releases including ‘Knives’ (produced with Norwegian producer Matoma), ‘Nowhere,’ and ‘Carpet.’ Following the success of ‘Capsize,’ they released their debut EP, Truce, in September 2016 under Columbia Records. Their full-length debut, Vacation, arrived in May 2019 and solidified their position in the contemporary indie and electropop landscape. The single ‘1000 Nights’ achieved over 45 million Spotify streams and received airplay on alternative radio.
In 2021, FRENSHIP released ‘All My Friends,’ a track reflecting the band’s experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. The duo’s final album, Leavenworth, was released on October 18, 2024. The band announced that Leavenworth would mark the end of FRENSHIP, concluding their eight-year collaborative project that significantly impacted the electronic pop genre with their emotionally resonant songwriting and innovative production approach.
