About Ginuwine
Biography / Discography
Elgin Baylor Lumpkin, professionally known as Ginuwine, is an American R&B singer and songwriter from Washington, D.C. He rose to prominence in the mid-1990s as a solo artist, following his work as a member of the music collective Swing Mob. His 1996 debut single “Pony,” produced with collaborator Timbaland, became his signature track, peaking at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and propelling his debut album Ginuwine…the Bachelor to double platinum certification.
Over two decades, Ginuwine established himself as a leading R&B artist through a series of commercially successful albums. His 1999 release 100% Ginuwine featured the hit “So Anxious,” while The Life (2001) included “Differences,” which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and remains his highest-charting single. Additional platinum-certified albums include The Senior (2003), which yielded the top-ten single “In Those Jeans,” and Back II da Basics (2005). As of 2013, he has sold approximately 6.98 million albums in the United States.
Beyond his solo work, Ginuwine co-founded the R&B supergroup TGT in 2007 alongside Tyrese Gibson and Tank. The trio released their Grammy-nominated debut album Three Kings in 2013. Known for blending traditional R&B with hip-hop and soul influences, Ginuwine’s artistry emphasizes emotional depth and vulnerability, reinforced through long-standing production collaborations with Timbaland and other notable producers.
