Biography / Discography
gnash (Garrett Charles Nash) is an American singer-songwriter, rapper, DJ, and record producer from Los Angeles. Known for his introspective approach to alternative R&B and pop, he emerged with his breakthrough single “I Hate U, I Love U” featuring Olivia O’Brien, which reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved number-one status in Australia in 2016. The track showcased his distinctive blend of emotional depth and accessible production, establishing him as a prominent voice in contemporary alternative music.
Beginning his career in 2015 with his debut EP U, gnash followed with the Me EP in December 2015, both demonstrating his evolving sonic palette and songwriting approach. His third EP, Us (2017), solidified his commercial breakthrough with “I Hate U, I Love U” becoming his signature track. In 2016, he was featured on Max’s “Lights Down Low,” marking his second entry on the Billboard Hot 100. He released his debut studio album We in January 2019, continuing to explore themes of relationships and emotional introspection through his characteristic alternative R&B sound.
