About Gordi
Biography / Discography
Gordi is the professional name of Sophie Payten, an Australian singer-songwriter and producer from New South Wales. Working primarily in folktronica and indie pop, she blends electronic production with introspective songwriting. Her music has achieved notable synchronization placements in television series and films including The Vampire Diaries, The Walking Dead, and the film To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You.
Payten began her professional career performing independently across Sydney, gaining initial recognition through Triple J’s Unearthed platform and earning a 2015 Unearthed Artist of the Year nomination. She signed to American label Jagjaguwar and Australian label Liberation Music in 2016, releasing her debut EP Clever Disguise that year. Her 2017 debut album Reservoir, co-produced with acclaimed producers including Alex Somers and Tim Anderson, established her distinctive voice in indie pop. The album featured collaborations with S. Carey and led to touring engagements with acts including Bon Iver, Of Monsters and Men, and The Tallest Man on Earth.
Payten released her second studio album Our Two Skins in 2020, co-produced with Chris Messina and Zach Hanson. Her third album Like Plasticine was released in August 2025. She continues to contribute to Australian music through positions including her 2023 appointment to the Music Australia Council.
