About Hans Zimmer
Biography / Discography
Hans Florian Zimmer is a German film composer and orchestral arranger renowned for blending traditional orchestration with electronic music across high-profile cinema. Born in Frankfurt in 1957, Zimmer began his career in 1977 with synthesizers in the band Krakatoa before transitioning to film scoring in 1987. He has since established himself as one of cinema’s most prolific and decorated composers.
Among his most celebrated works are The Lion King (1994), for which he won his first Academy Award; Gladiator (2000); The Dark Knight trilogy (2005-2012); Inception (2010); and Dune (2021), which earned his second Oscar. His collaborations span the industry’s most visionary directors, including Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Denis Villeneuve, and Michael Bay across more than 150 film scores. His accolades include two Academy Awards, three Golden Globes, five Grammy Awards, and a BAFTA Award.
Zimmer founded Remote Control Productions, a creative studio that has become an incubator for emerging film composers, and serves as head of the film music division at DreamWorks Pictures and Animation.
