Biography / Discography
Hurts are an English electro-pop duo formed in Manchester in 2009, consisting of singer Theo Hutchcraft and multi-instrumentalist Adam Anderson. Their sound fuses electronic pop with new wave and synthpop elements, drawing inspiration from David Bowie, Kraftwerk, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, and OMD. The duo achieved international prominence with their 2009 viral music video for “Wonderful Life,” which has accumulated over 103 million views and remains their signature track.
Their debut album Happiness (2010) debuted at number four on the UK Albums Chart and became the fastest-selling debut by a band that year. The album achieved top-10 positions in multiple countries, ultimately selling 400,000 copies in Germany alone and earning double platinum status. Hurts received recognition including Best International Newcomer at the BAMBI Awards, and their 2011 Glastonbury Festival performance was voted best of the festival by NME readers.
