About Jeff Lynne’s ELO
Biography / Discography
Jeff Lynne’s ELO is the touring continuation of Electric Light Orchestra, an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1970 by multi-instrumentalists Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood. ELO pioneered a distinctive fusion of pop and rock with classical orchestral arrangements and futuristic production values, becoming one of the most commercially successful acts of the 1970s and 1980s.
During their initial active period from 1970 to 1986, ELO released numerous top 10 albums and singles across the UK and US. Notable releases include the platinum double album Out of the Blue (1977), Discovery (1979), and Time (1981), a science-fiction concept album. The band accumulated 27 UK Top 40 singles and 15 US Billboard Hot 100 Top 20 hits, establishing a record for the most Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 entries (20) without achieving a number-one single. During this era, ELO sold over 50 million records worldwide and earned multiple platinum certifications across major markets.
After disbanding in 1986, ELO reunited briefly from 2000 to 2001. In 2014, Jeff Lynne re-formed the band as Jeff Lynne’s ELO with longtime keyboardist Richard Tandy, returning to active touring and recording. In 2017, four key members including Lynne were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group continues to perform globally, available for festival bookings, corporate events, and concert tours.
