About Jelen
Biography / Discography
Jelen is a Czech acoustic roots-music band formed in 2012, known for a sound that blends country, folk, bluegrass and blues into original songwriting. The group is built around a multi-instrumental lineup featuring Jindra Polák on vocals and guitar, Martin Kasal on violin and piano, Ondřej Málek on bass, Tomáš Málek on guitar, Honza Rek on banjo, Josef Málek on accordion, Saša Smutný on trumpet, and Vít Polák on percussion.
The band won the Anděl Award for Discovery of the Year in 2014 and Band of the Year in 2016, and was nominated for the Český slavík (Czech Nightingale) award in 2014. Its discography includes the EP Magdaléna (2013) and the studio albums Světlo ve tmě (2014), Včí srdce (2016), Půlnocň vlak Michala Tučného (2019), Věci & sny (2021) and Všechno bude dobré (2023), along with the live release Živě v Lucerně (2017), recorded at Prague’s Lucerna Music Bar.
Over more than a decade of activity, Jelen has built a following in the Czech acoustic and roots-music scene through regular touring and festival appearances. The band is available to book for festivals, corporate events and private shows.
