About Kollárovci
Biography / Discography
Kollárovci (lit. ‘Kollár Brothers’) is a Slovak folk music band formed in 1997, consisting of three Kollár brothers—Tomáš (fiddle), Štefan (saxophone, clarinet, accordion, piano), and Marek (second fiddle)—alongside four other musicians: Juraj Švedulár (bass guitar), Július Michal Hudi (dulcimer), Patrik Červenák (drums), and Peter Rončík (guitar). The ensemble specializes in Slovak folk music performed in the Podhale subdialect, a linguistic blend of Polish and Slovak elements, alternating between vocal and instrumental performances.
Though founded in 1997, Kollárovci did not debut publicly until 2006. Their breakthrough came in 2013 with the release of Goraľeu cy si ne žal, which achieved both platinum and gold certifications. The band won first place at the Šlágr TV award in 2015 and subsequently undertook major concert tours including the Mega Tour Open Air 2019 (June–August). They have collaborated with fellow Slovak folk ensembles, notably recording ‘Chlapci spod Tatier’ with Kandráčovci in 2019. The group’s discography encompasses thirteen albums spanning traditional arrangements and new compositions.
