About Scotch (Vince Lancini)
Biography / Discography
Scotch was an Italian Italo disco and synth-pop band formed in Bergamo in 1982 by producers David Zambelli and Walter Verdi. The group comprised vocalist Vince Lancini, keyboardist Fabio Margutti, and instrumentalists Franz Rome, Franz Felleti and Manlio Cangelli. Emerging at the height of the 1980s electronic music movement, Scotch became known for their polished, synthesizer-driven sound and achieved significant international chart success during their five-year active period.
The band released two studio albums: Evolution (1985) and Pictures of Old Days (1987). Their breakthrough came with the instrumental single Penguins’ Invasion (1983), followed by the hugely successful Disco Band (1984), which reached number one in Austria, number three in Germany, and number four in Switzerland. Subsequent singles including Mirage (1986), which peaked at number two in Sweden, and Money Runner (1986) solidified their profile across European markets. Additional singles such as Delirio Mind (1984), Take Me Up (1985), Pictures (1986), and Man to Man (1987) showcased their consistent production quality and arrangement skills.
Though the band’s core run concluded in 1987, their influence endured within electronic music circles; the track Disco Band was notably sampled by electronic act Scooter in 2007. Scotch remains a notable example of the sophisticated Italo disco and synth-pop sound that defined 1980s European dance and electronic music.
