About Years & Years
Biography / Discography
Years & Years were a London-based English electropop band active from 2010 to 2023, led by frontman Olly Alexander with core members Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Türkmen. The group achieved major commercial success with their 2015 debut album Communion, which entered the UK Albums Chart at number one and became that year’s fastest-selling debut by a UK-signed band. The album’s lead single “King” became their breakthrough hit, reaching the top of the UK Singles Chart and charting internationally across thirteen territories.
Years & Years released three studio albums during their career. Communion was followed by Palo Santo (2018), which achieved top-ten UK placement and showcased the singles “Sanctify” and “If You’re Over Me”, both reaching the UK top ten. Their final studio work, Night Call (2022), debuted at UK number one. Beyond their studio recordings, the band earned recognition with six Brit Award nominations and won awards including the Sound of 2015 Award and the British LGBT Award. They collaborated with prominent artists including the Pet Shop Boys, Kylie Minogue, and DJ Jax Jones.
In 2021, the band transitioned to a solo vehicle for Olly Alexander while retaining the Years & Years name, with other members stepping back from active recording roles. The project concluded in 2023, after which Alexander pursued a fully independent solo career, representing the United Kingdom at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest. The band’s synthesizer-driven electropop sound, characterized by dance and alternative R&B influences, established them as significant figures in contemporary British pop music.
