About Zhala
Biography / Discography
Zhala is a Swedish avant-garde vocalist and electronic pop artist renowned for her otherworldly voice and experimental compositions. Her artistic practice explores themes of desire, unconsciousness, and unconventional beauty through distinctly forward-thinking electronic arrangements and avant-garde production techniques.
She released her self-titled debut album Zhala in 2015 on the experimental label Konichiwa Records, establishing her distinctive approach to avant-garde pop. After an extended five-year development period, Zhala emerged with the Holes series in 2020, featuring remixes and reinterpretations by leading electronic and experimental producers including Olof Dreijer of The Knife, Deep Throat Choir, Planningtorock, and TAYHANA. These collaborative works showcased her ability to work across diverse artistic sensibilities while maintaining her experimental vision.
Throughout her career, Zhala has collaborated with major electronic pop and avant-garde artists, notably Robyn, with whom she has maintained an ongoing creative relationship and toured internationally. Her distinctive vocal presence and commitment to experimental approaches have established her as a significant voice in contemporary avant-garde pop and electronic music.
