About Medina
Biography / Discography
Medina Danielle Oona Valbak, known professionally as Medina, is a Danish pop and electropop singer-songwriter born in 1982. She adopted her professional stage name in 2005 and has become one of Scandinavia’s most prominent pop artists. Her music combines dance-pop with electronic elements, achieving significant chart success across Denmark, Northern Europe, and beyond.
Medina achieved major breakthrough success in 2008 with her debut single “Kun for mig,” which topped the Danish charts for six weeks and earned triple-platinum certification. Her second album, Velkommen til Medina, produced multiple chart-topping hits. She expanded her international reach with English-language recordings; the single “You and I” reached the UK top 40 and entered German top-ten charts.
Her contributions to music earned recognition at the 2010 Danish Music Awards, where she won Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year. She also received MTV Europe Music Awards in 2009 and 2011. Throughout her career beginning in 2007, Medina has released seven studio albums including For Altid, Forever, We Survive, and Grim, maintaining an active touring and recording presence.
