About Aerosmith
Biography / Discography
Aerosmith is an American hard rock band formed in Boston in 1970 by Steven Tyler (lead vocals), Joe Perry and Brad Whitford (guitars), Tom Hamilton (bass), and Joey Kramer (drums). Known as the “Bad Boys from Boston”, the group’s blues-based hard rock sound incorporated elements of heavy metal, glam metal, pop rock, and rhythm and blues, establishing them as one of the most influential rock acts of the 1970s and beyond.
The band released their debut album in 1973 and achieved massive success with Toys in the Attic (1975) and Rocks (1976). Throughout the 1970s they charted twelve Hot 100 singles, including “Sweet Emotion”, “Dream On”, and “Walk This Way”. Internal tensions led to Perry and Whitford’s departures in 1979 and 1981, before both rejoined the band in 1984. Their 1986 collaboration with Run-D.M.C. on “Walk This Way” and the platinum album Permanent Vacation (1987) marked a remarkable comeback, one of rock history’s most spectacular recoveries.
In the late 1980s and 1990s, Aerosmith dominated rock radio with multi-platinum albums including Pump (1989), Get a Grip (1993), and Nine Lives (1997), earning numerous awards and embarking on extensive world tours. They achieved their first number-one hit in 1998 with “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” (Armageddon soundtrack). The band holds the record for most total certifications by an American group and is the best-selling American hard rock band of all time with over 150 million records sold worldwide.
