About AlBano
Biography / Discography
Albano Antonio Carrisi, professionally known as Al Bano, is an Italian pop and opera tenor recognized worldwide for his four-and-a-half-octave vocal range and operatic affinity in pop, rock, and italo disco repertoires. With over 25 million records sold and a career spanning seven decades, he stands as one of the most recognizable Italian singers globally.
Carrisi made his professional debut in 1966, launching a recording career with immediate success. Early hits included “Nel sole” (1967), which sold over one million copies internationally, and “Pensando a te,” which won the Un disco per l’estate contest in 1968. From 1970 to 1999, he performed as part of the duo Al Bano & Romina Power, recording successful albums including “Dialogo” (1975) and participating in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1976 and 1985 (both entries placing 7th). The duo achieved particular prominence in Italy, Austria, France, Spain, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Russia, and Germany.
A 15-time Sanremo Music Festival participant, Carrisi won the competition in 1984 with “Ci sarà” and achieved multiple top placements with entries including “Felicità” (1982, second place), “Nostalgia canaglia” (1987, third), and “Nel perdono” (2007, second). He returned to his solo career in 1996 and has released several acclaimed opera albums, including the double-platinum “Concerto Classico” (1997). Honored as a UN Food and Agriculture Organization Goodwill Ambassador and granted Albanian citizenship in 2016, Al Bano continues to perform at major international venues and festivals.
