About Eruption
Biography / Discography
Eruption, originally known as Silent Eruption, is a British disco, R&B and soul group formed by Caribbean musicians in London around 1969. The group took the name Eruption in 1974 after singer Precious Wilson joined as a backing vocalist, and it is best known for disco-era cover versions of Ann Peebles’s “I Can’t Stand the Rain” and Neil Sedaka’s “One Way Ticket”.
Eruption won an RCA Soul Search talent contest in 1975, which led to a recording contract and their debut single. Their 1978 cover of “I Can’t Stand the Rain” became an international disco hit, reaching number one in Belgium and Australia and number five on the UK Singles Chart. The 1979 follow-up, a cover of “One Way Ticket”, peaked at number nine in the UK.
Precious Wilson left Eruption in 1979 to pursue a solo career, and the group continued with a succession of replacement lead singers, including Kim Davis and Jane Jochen, before disbanding in 1985. Wilson later took over ownership of the Eruption name and has continued to perform and tour under it with new lineups. Eruption is available to book for festivals, corporate events and private shows.
