About Far East Movement
Biography / Discography
Far East Movement (FM) is an American hip-hop and electronic music group based in Los Angeles. Formed in 2003, the group comprises Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Splif, Jon Street, Ray Ro, DJ Virman, and Jerm Beats. They achieved mainstream breakthrough with their 2010 single “Like a G6” (featuring The Cataracs and Dev), which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making them the first Asian-American group to top the chart. Their major-label debut Free Wired followed, with the single “Rocketeer” (featuring Ryan Tedder) peaking at number seven.
Across subsequent albums Dirty Bass (2012) and Identity (2016), Far East Movement expanded their sound to bridge Eastern artists with their Western dance-music roots. Identity spawned the collaborative single “Freal Luv” (with Marshmello, Tinashe, and EXO’s Chanyeol) and received positive critical reception. The group has released music across major labels including Interscope, Ministry of Sound, Dim Mak Records, and Ultra Records, while establishing artist management company Transparent Arts and the joint label BredNButter with YouTube channel Trap City.
Beyond recording, Far East Movement co-founded Identity Festival in Los Angeles, a celebration of Asian-American heritage that attracted over 10,000 attendees in 2018 with headliners including Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and K-pop artist Jay Park.
