About Dario G
Biography / Discography
Dario G were an English dance music group formed in 1996 in Cheshire, England, consisting of DJs and producers Scott Rosser, Paul Spencer, and Stephen Spencer, plus vocalist Ingfrid Straumstøyl. The group achieved major international success with their 1997 debut single “Sunchyme”, a euphoric dance track built around a sample of “Life in a Northern Town” by the Dream Academy. “Sunchyme” reached number two on the UK Singles Chart, number one on the US Dance Club Chart, and sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide, earning platinum certification in the UK. The single was nominated for the Brit Award for British Video of the Year at the 1998 Brit Awards.
Dario G released their debut album Sunmachine in 1998, followed by two further singles from the record: “Carnaval de Paris”, which reached number five on the UK chart and became a recurring fixture at international football tournaments, and “Sunmachine”. Following the album’s release, Scott Rosser and Stephen Spencer departed to pursue other projects, leaving Paul Spencer to continue as a solo artist under the Dario G name. In 2000, Paul Spencer recorded “Voices” for the soundtrack to the film The Beach, and released “Dream to Me” featuring Straumstøyl on lead vocals, which reached number nine in the UK and helped establish his reputation as a master of euphoric dance production.
Paul Spencer continued recording under the Dario G name throughout the 2000s and 2010s, including collaborations with Pitbull on “Game On” for the 2010 FIFA World Cup soundtrack and a later single with Shirley Bassey. The project released two studio albums: Sunmachine (1998) and In Full Colour (2001).
