Goombay Dance Band is a German eurodisco and europop group formed in Hamburg in 1979 by Oliver Bendt. The band’s name comes from a small bay on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, reflecting the tropical influences embedded in their musical style. Their sound was a distinctive blend of soca, calypso, and Western pop, creating a style often compared to contemporaries like Boney M. The group quickly became one of the leading acts in the eurodisco movement and achieved their greatest commercial success during the early 1980s.
