About Howard Jones
Biography / Discography
John Howard Jones, known professionally as Howard Jones, is a British synth-pop musician and singer-songwriter born on 23 February 1955 in Southampton, England. He emerged as a defining figure of 1980s synth-pop, achieving major chart success between 1983 and 1986 with ten UK top 40 singles, six of which reached the top ten. His 1984 debut album Human’s Lib topped the UK Albums Chart, establishing him as a central artist of the new wave movement.
Jones’s most successful international releases came in the mid-1980s. The 1986 single “No One Is to Blame” reached number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming his signature hit in America, with four additional tracks charting in the US top 20. Other notable releases include “Like to Get to Know You Well,” “What Is Love?,” “New Song,” and “Things Can Only Get Better.” He was a key figure in the 1980s Second British Invasion of American popular music and performed at Live Aid in 1985.
Throughout his career, Jones has maintained an active recording and touring presence, selling over eight million albums globally and achieving 15 top 40 hits worldwide between 1983 and 1992.
