About Kym Mazelle
Biography / Discography
Kym Mazelle, born Kymberly Grigsby on August 10, 1960, is an American solo vocalist who pioneered house music internationally. Recognized as “The First Lady of House Music,” she blends house, R&B, soul, funk, dance, and pop elements throughout her three-decade career, with significant influence throughout Europe and globally.
Mazelle began her recording career in 1987 with a collaboration with producer Marshall Jefferson. Her chart success accelerated in 1988-1989 with top singles, including a duet that peaked at No. 7 on the UK charts. In 1990, she joined Soul II Soul as lead vocalist, achieving worldwide recognition on the track “Missing You.” A UK No. 13 hit followed in 1994, and her cover work appeared in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet (1996).
Her studio albums include Crazy/Brilliant! (1989), The Pleasure Is All Mine (2004), and Destiny (2010), supported by an extensive catalog of singles and compilation appearances. Mazelle has remained a touring artist throughout her career, celebrating 30 years in music with an anniversary tour in 2017.
