About Lisa Stansfield
Biography / Discography
Lisa Jane Stansfield is an English singer, songwriter, and dancer known for her distinctive voice and contributions to dance-pop and soul music. Born in Manchester on 11 April 1966, she rose to prominence in the late 1980s with her debut solo album Affection (1989), which became a global commercial success and earned Grammy nominations. The album’s lead single achieved worldwide recognition, establishing her as a major force in pop and dance music.
Before her solo breakthrough, Stansfield performed in the band Blue Zone (1983-1987) alongside Ian Devaney and Andy Morris. Her solo career gained momentum following her vocal feature on Coldcut’s “People Hold On” (1989), which preceded her landmark debut album. Affection sold over five million copies worldwide and remains her bestselling work, with the artist accumulating over 20 million total album sales across her career.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Stansfield released multiple studio albums including Real Love (1991), So Natural (1993), and Lisa Stansfield (1993), while also pursuing acting roles in film and television. Later releases include Face Up (2003), Deeper (2008), and Seven (2014). Her accolades include three Brit Awards, two Ivor Novello Awards, and recognition as the 46th-most-successful dance artist by Billboard.
