About Matt Nathanson
Biography / Discography
Matt Nathanson (Matthew Adam Nathanson) is an American folk-rock singer-songwriter based in San Francisco, known for blending acoustic and electric guitar work with radio-friendly pop-rock songwriting. He performs both as a solo act and fronting a full band, and is best known for his platinum-certified single “Come On Get Higher.”
Nathanson released a series of independent albums through the 1990s before his commercial breakthrough with Some Mad Hope (2007), which debuted at number 60 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 34 weeks. Its lead single, “Come On Get Higher,” reached number 2 on the Triple A chart and number 9 on Hot AC, sold more than 1.8 million copies, and was featured on television series including Scrubs, Private Practice, and Big Shots. He followed with Modern Love (2011) and Last of the Great Pretenders (2013), the latter debuting at number 16 on the Billboard 200 behind the single “Mission Bells.”
His ninth studio album, Show Me Your Fangs (2015), included “Giants,” used as theme music for ESPN’s 2016 World Series of Poker broadcast. Later releases include the Def Leppard covers EP Pyromattia (2018), the studio album Sings His Sad Heart (2018), the collaborative Postcards (from Chicago) (2019) with Richard Marx and Patrick Stump, the live album Live in Paradise: Boston (2020), Boston Accent (2022) produced by Butch Walker, and King Of (Un)Simple (2025).
