About Odyssey band
Biography / Discography
Odyssey is a vocal trio originally from New York City, best known for their disco and R&B hits of the late 1970s and 1980s. Formed from the vocal group Lopez Sisters—which originally featured Steven Collazo’s mother Lillian Lopez and her sisters Louise Lopez and Carmen B. Lopez Gouveia—Odyssey emerged as a distinct act with the addition of bassist and vocalist Tony Reynolds following their 1977 breakthrough, Native New Yorker, which reached number 21 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 5 on the UK Singles Chart.
The group achieved greater commercial success in the United Kingdom than their native United States, securing five top-ten UK hits between 1977 and 1982. Their 1980 single Use It Up and Wear It Out became their signature song, reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart for two consecutive weeks. The group also released Going Back to My Roots, written by Lamont Dozier, and the 1982 R&B chart hit Inside Out, which peaked at number 12 on the US R&B charts and number 3 in the UK, earning recognition as one of NME’s Tracks of the Year for 1982.
After their original RCA Records contract ended, the band—featuring lead vocalist Lillian Lopez, Al Jackson, and keyboardist and musical director Steven Collazo—continued touring throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East. Now led by Steven Collazo with evolving vocalist lineups, Odyssey continues to perform and record. The group is available to book for festivals, corporate events, and private shows.
